When photographed under a 3D microscope, grains of sand appear like colourful pieces of candy.
When Dr. Gary Greenberg turned his microscope on beach sand, gemlike minerals, colorful coral fragments, and delicate microscopic shells emerged, revealing that sand is actually much more than just little brown rocks. You will never look at a beach the same way again.

Interestingly, Mr. Greenberg was contracted to create the opening scene in the original Superman movie. The beautiful landscape of Supermans home planet Krypton is actually a microscopic view of human pancreatic cancer cells! Bizarre.
